Good morning and welcome to Music & Memories.

This is Linda Sue, and I am the grief specialist at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. It is my pleasure to bring you this week’s program. This program is our way of reaching out to help families deal with those difficult days surrounding the death anniversary of a loved one.

We are over the middle of January which brings us digging a little deeper into the details of grief. Let's talk about the four cycles of grief. The first one, shock/numbness, appears right after the loss of your loved one. You ask yourself, "Did this really happen?", "Are you really gone?". The second one is yearning/searching; missing your loved one and searching for them in all you do. The third one is disorganization/despair; feelings of not being in control, disorganized, along with the loss of hope. Reorganization/recovery is the last one; this is the final cycle where your new normal has begun; and you feel in control, and you're organized and on the road to recovery. We need to always remember our pain of grief gets softer with time, but never really goes away. We have loved and to love deeply we also grieve deeply.
