Richard A. “Dick” Oevermann, age 85 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Dan Walz officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by Catholic United Financial at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Richard Alphonse Oevermann was born January 13, 1934 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Alvina (Thieschaefer) Oevermann.   Dick served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1959.  He was united in marriage to Carol Renneker on April 27, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Dick farmed north of Melrose until his retirement in 2008.

He was a member and usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and was a member of Catholic United Financial.  Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved ice fishing, spearing, summer fishing, and deer hunting. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at Linda B’s on “Holy Tuesday” and on Friday’s as well. Dick was a huge fan of the Melrose Dutchmen basketball team and in his younger years enjoyed playing baseball, softball, and bowling. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his sons, Karl (Petra) Oevermann of Freeport and Corey (Tina) Oevermann of Freeport; three grandchildren, Chase, Autumn, and Sarah Oevermann; brothers and sisters, Albert Oevermann of Melrose, Kitty Mueller of Melrose, Donald Oevermann of Melrose, Dorothy Schmitz of Brooten, and Joseph Oevermann of Melrose.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Oevermann; parents; sister, Edna Middendorf; brothers-in-law, Edward Mueller, Leonard Schmitz, and Ralph Middendorf; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Oevermann and Ilene Oevermann.
