Dorothy I. Sell, age 99 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Woodbury, Minnesota passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the CentraCare Care Center in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A family inurnment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.

Dorothy Irene Fischer was born April 22, 1922 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Christian and Ruby Mae (McWaters) Fischer. She went to school in Crookston for 12 years and continued her education at the U of M in Crookston for special programs. On January 5, 1946 she married Bernard O. Banks and they later divorced on October 28, 1963. She worked at the United States Government both with the Census Bureau and IRS in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dorothy was State President of VFW Auxiliary from 1958-1959. She was also president of Big 10 VFW Auxiliaries in the Midwest states from 1959-1960. She was united in marriage to Eldon Sell on November 23, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple built their home in Woodbury. Dorothy retired in 1972 due to her health. During retirement, Eldon and Dorothy traveled to the south and west areas of the United States.

Dorothy was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in St. Paul and attended First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. She enjoyed making and painting pottery, travelling throughout the United States, and working with the VFW Auxiliaries.

Survivors include her stepdaughters, Becky Neal of Sauk Centre and Nancy Berg of Eden Prairie; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard Banks; second husband, Eldon Sell on March 27, 1999; parents; son, Pat Banks; infant son, David Paul Banks; sisters, Mildred Carlson, Elizabeth Lilienthal, and Donna Hoff; brother, Richard Fischer; stepson, James Eldon Sell; stepdaughter, Deanna Davison; and stepsons-in-law, Patrick Neal and Richard Davison.
