Viola P. Wiechmann, age 89 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 25 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council, and VFW Auxiliary will pray at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Viola Pauline Korf was born July 12, 1928 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Herman and Catherine (Meyer) Korf. She was united in marriage to Ervin Wiechmann on April 27, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. She helped Erv on the farm but primarily was busy raising her family. Viola also worked at the Melrose Elementary School in the kitchen as a dishwasher for over 25 years, retiring at age 80. She was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose where she served as sacristan and Eucharistic Minister for many years, Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. Viola enjoyed embroidering, playing cards, dancing, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Paul) Schanhaar of Deer River, Gene (Karen) Wiechmann of Freeport, Don "Red" (Tammy) Wiechmann of Melrose, Allan (Lisa) Wiechmann of Melrose, Joe (Sharon) Wiechmann of Melrose, Rick (Shelly) Wiechmann of Melrose, Lynn (Randy) Gieske of Sauk Centre, and Jerry Wiechmann of New Munich; 18 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and five step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rosie Gruber of Melrose, Teresa (Wally) Lieser of New Brighton, and Mary Ann Wensman of Greenwald.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Wiechmann on October 1, 2012; parents; daughter, Lois (Bob) Doll; sister, Eileen Schmiesing; infant brothers, Francis, Herman, Joseph, and Edwin; infant sister, Mary Katherine; infant twin sisters, Mary and Ann; and brothers-in-law, Ervin Schmiesing, Michael Gruber, and Denis Wensman.

Serving as urn bearer will be Gene Wiechmann. Cross bearer will be Ross Wiechmann and scripture bearer will be Jenny Gieske. Readers will be Mike Wiechmann and Beth Pelzer and petitions will be read by Kasey Wiechmann. Gift bearers will be Amy Winter and Amanda Wiechmann and serving as Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Ann Wensman and Dennis Gruber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
