Russel "Russ" Vogel

Russel Otto Vogel of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the age of 82.

No services will be held.

He was born on May 10, 1943 in Wheaton area of Traverse County, Minnesota and was the son of the late Otto Ernest and Pearl Louise (Young) Vogel. Russ has lived all of his life in Minnesota. He attended Dist 46 (Country School), High School: Wheaton High School, Technical School: Alexandria – Farm Equipment Mechanic.

Russ worked at the Park Region Echo Newspaper in Alexandria, right out of Tech School after which, he went to work for Tilney’s Farm (by Padua, MN) until he bought the Orth Farm 3 miles SE of Sauk Centre in 1973, and sold in 1984. He loved working the land on the farm, but didn’t enjoy milking cows as much. After the farm sold, he started driving a gas truck for Texgas. He then drove a semi-truck hauling livestock for Hittle Trucking in Sauk Centre, MN. After which he purchased his own tractor and leased on with Walters Trucking in Sauk Centre, MN. After he sold his truck, he went to work for his son at Brooten Auto in Brooten, MN.

Russ enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, and watching Nascar races and Vikings football. He also loved working with wood and did many projects around the house. He remodeled two of his homes with the help of his sons. He dearly loved his family and was always happy when they would come to visit.

Russ was preceded in death by his father, Otto Vogel, his mother, Pearl (Young) Vogel, his sister, Sharon (Vogel) Sheldon, and his brother, Leslie Vogel.

Russ is survived by his wife Barbara (Tiemann) Vogel; his children, Todd Vogel (Denise), Jeff Vogel (Christa), Scott Vogel (Jean), Tammy (Vogel) Rosenow, Stacy Vogel (John), and Amanda Vogel; Grandchildren: Easton, Gabriella, Mathew, Erica, Travis, Justin, Jessica, Benjamin, Tiffany, Tamara, Evelyn, Caitlin, Samantha, and Jordan; and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Fuoss and his brother, Robert Vogel.
