Richard “Rich” J. Peters, age 87, of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 6 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Fr. Greg Paffel officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. The Mass will be recorded and placed on his website Saturday afternoon.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Richard Joseph Peters was born to Alphonse and Cora (Wiener) Peters on January 16, 1934 in Belgrade, MN. As a young boy he moved with his family to a farm south of Sauk Centre in 1941. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
He married Alice Rose Rooney on September 9, 1958 in Padua, MN. They farmed with Rich’s brother, George, for 11 years south of Sauk Centre. They bought a farm 3 miles away in 1968, retiring in 1988 and moving into town.
Rich served on the Central Minnesota Co-op board for the Elevator, Creamery, and Oil Station. He also served on the Holy Family School board. He held many offices in the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a lector, eucharistic minister, and usher at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.
Rich’s hobbies include bowling, golfing, and playing cards along with watching the Vikings, Twins, and FOX News. He and Alice enjoyed spending winters in Arizona for 18 years and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice, of 62 years; children, Patty Odegard of Sauk Centre, Susan (Ed) Maus of Kimball, Jean (Lyle) Zimmer of Turlock, CA, Steve (Grace) Peters of Peoria, AZ, Rose (Todd) Larson of Sartell, Deb (Brian) Eisenschenk of Cold Spring, Jerry (Stacie) Peters of Big Lake, and Jeff (Melanie) Peters of Sauk Centre, 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Delores) Peters and Herb (Alice) Peters, all of Sauk Centre.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; sister MaryAnn Spanier (and her family); brothers Jim and Bob, and great-granddaughter, Braylee Pridal.
Serving as casket bearers will be Rich’s grandchildren, Jason Odegard, Jenna Maus, Lyle Zimmer, Jr., Jarrett Pridal, Sam Larson, Tracy Eisenschenk, Tyler Peters, and Lindsay Peters. Cross bearer will be Melissa Miguel, scripture bearer Emily Peters, lector Chelsey Maus, and eucharistic minister Brian Eisenschenk.
