Prudence Johnson

Prudence L. Johnson, the daughter of William P. Arndt and Prudence G. (Gilbertson) Arndt, was born in Mason City, Iowa on April 3, 1915. She was raised in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. She attended Sauk Centre Public Schools, graduating from High School in 1933. She attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from Minnesota School of Business. She worked in the University Sports Department during the era of the "Golden Gophers" and later received a permanent position as private secretary with the Advertising Manager of the Green Giant Company in LeSueur, Minnesota. In 1940 she was married to Dr. Lyle T. Johnson, who practiced Dentistry in Sauk Centre.

During WWII she worked as Secretary to the Superintendent of Sauk Centre Public Schools. Her volunteer work included the following: Girl Scout Leader, helped to establish the library at what was then St. Paul's school (under Sister Amelianne), worked with the St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary, and helped to establish and work with the Stearns County Welfare Office in Sauk Centre. She also wrote a weekly column for the Sauk Centre Herald. She was a member of St. Paul's Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and many friendships.

Her husband of 62 years died of cancer in 2003. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Gleysteen, step-granddaughter Jennifer (Kevin) Fluth, great-grandchildren Conrad, Lucie, and Emilee; and a son, Craig (Debra) Johnson, grandsons Karl (Janine) Johnson and Ben (Kelsey) Johnson.

Prudy's family wishes to thank Bob Bearson of Lakeshore Estates, the staff of Fairway Pines, and Dr. Mari Thomas for all the care they provided.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
