Mildred A. “Millie” Wiechmann, age 80 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the Cura Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 22 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Derek Wiechmann officiating. A private inurnment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Ward Springs.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mildred Ann Mueller was born February 7, 1945 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Joseph and Marietta (Rademacher) Mueller. Millie was a nursing assistant at the Melrose Hospital in her early twenties until she married the love of her life, Patrick Wiechmann. The couple was married on May 27, 1967 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Millie lived on Birch Lake for 17 years before moving to Kitchi Lake near Pennington, Minnesota where she, along side her husband, ran Lost Acres Resort. They returned to central Minnesota in 2019.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Millie was also a former member, volunteer, and a Christian Mother at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Ward Springs, and a member of the Melrose American Legion Auxiliary. Millie was a fisherman’s wife who fried, smoked, and pickled fish. She was very strong-willed and proud to be the mother of her seven children. Millie enjoyed baking cookies, sewing, bird watching, gardening, and caring for many flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Patrick Wiechmann of Melrose; children, John (Anita) Wiechmann of Grey Eagle, Nancy (Terry) Thell of Holdingford, Dennis (Emily) Wiechmann of Poulsbo, Washington, Eva (Allen) Miller of St. Joseph, Amy Wiechmann (Marlin Van Loon) of Laporte, Ada (Ray) Adolph of Kimball, and Mary (Shawn) Thomes of Clearwater; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Anna Mae (Mike) Froehle, Alice (Kenny) Steinhoffer, Jane (Louie) Schaeffer, Annella Rossman, Albert (Brenda) Mueller, Alvin (Brenda) Mueller, and Rita (Pat) Poepping.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leroy Mueller; and brother-in-law, Dennis Rossman.
