Michael "Mike" Sauer

Michael Thomas Sauer, age 75, was set free into the loving arms of God on December 13, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born in San Fransico on August 12, 1948, and grew up in many places around the U.S. and in Germany as a child of a military family. He graduated from Idaho State University and served in the U.S. Army Reserve; was a long-haul trucker for many years with Lake State Trucking of St. Cloud, Minnesota; was the owner and manager of Timber Ridge Supper Club in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota for 25 years. After retiring from the restaurant business, he lived in Ranier, Minnesota, with his beloved dog, Misty, for a number of years until the onset of his illness. During his years of illness, he was loving cared for at Jack Pine Chateau in Little Fork, Serenity Village in Avon, and finally the Good Shepherd Community cottages in Sauk Rapids, where he died.

Mike was preceded in death by his loving parents, Colonel James A. & Deloris K. (Petron) Sauer, grandparents, William and Mary (Hunstiger) Sauer and Emil & Cecelia (Skaja) Petron; 18 aunts and uncles, and 7 cousins.

He is survived by his brother, Rev. Timothy Sauer of Washington State, and numerous cousins and friends.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday December 18 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose with a gathering time beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the Mass will be lunch at the American Legion in Melrose followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud at 2:30 p.m.
