Joyce Karnes

Joyce A. Karnes, age 83 of Burtrum, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Cura in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Moses Dane Cemetery in Burtrum.

Joyce Ann Allen was born June 7, 1943 in Provo, Utah to Joseph and Neva (Raatz) Allen. She was united in marriage to Hoyt Karnes on June 27, 1958 in Burtrum. Throughout her life, Joyce worked at various jobs including Stearns in Grey Eagle and Munsingwear in Little Falls. Her last job was working at Walmart in Little Falls. She enjoyed visiting with people as they passed through Walmart but due to health reasons, Joyce stopped working and remained at home doing things around the house. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She will be missed for her joking personality.

Survivors include her husband, Hoyt Karnes of Burtrum; children, Shelley (Mike) Barthel of Swanville, Joseph (Olivia) Karnes of Michigan, Shari (John) DeFoe of Burtrum, Jerry (Patricia) Karnes of Burtrum, James Karnes of Swanville, and Shannon (Glen) Throener of Swanville; son-in-law, Dave Mayers of Swanville; 23 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; and brother, Galen (Geraldine) Allen of Grey Eagle.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Shirley Mayers on July 28, 2024.
