Joyce W. Cheney, 82, of Sauk Centre died on Thursday, March 13th at his home in Sauk Centre.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 21st at Little Sauk - Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk Township. Rev Steve Hilde will officiate with interment following in Long Bridge Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church in Little Sauk Township.

Joyce Cheney was born on April 9, 1920 in Kandota Township, Todd County to Grant and Christine (Hanson) Cheney. Joyce was raised in Long Prairie. He was united in marriage to Ruth Lemke on May 25, 1945 in Hopkins, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in Chaska, Minnesota for 37 ½ years. They raised their son, Grant who was born in Shakopee, Minnesota. Joyce worked at Riley Tar and Chemical Company in St. Louis Park for many years and at Eaton Corporation, Char Lynn Division in Eden Prairie. In 1984 the couple moved to Sauk Centre and retired. Joyce was a member of Little Sauk-Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk Township. He enjoyed his dog, Mike.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cheney of Sauk Centre; son, Grant Cheney and his wife, Rita of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Angie Madsen and her husband, Robert of Shakopee and Daniel Cheney and his fiancé, Stacy Lund of St. Cloud; great grandson, Robert Cheney; sister, Marlys Welch and her husband, Donald of Englewood, CO; brothers, Merle Cheney and his wife, Johanna of Tucson, AZ and George Cheney of Renton, WA; a few cousins in Glencoe and his German Shepherd companion, Mike.

Joyce was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Christine Cheney and brother, Wayne Cheney.

Serving as casket bearers will be Dan Cheney, Rob Madsen, Verner Samuelson, Dennis Suelflow, Donald "Pete" Panitzke, Jon Panitzke and Grant Blaskowski.
Serving as cross bearer will be Angie Madsen.
