John Nathe

John H. Nathe, age 93 formerly of St. Cloud and New Munich died on Tuesday, March 4th at Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate with burial in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church in New Munich where the St. Cloud Knights of Columbus, Council #961 will have a prayer service. Catholic Order of Foresters of New Munich will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John was born to Anton and Margaret (Klein) on March 15, 1909. He married Edna Rose Bohnen on September 4, 1933 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple lived in New Munich where together they owned a Red Owl Agency Grocery Store and John sold auto, casualty and life insurance until 1959. Upon moving to St. Cloud he worked for J.C. Penny in sales until retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in St. Cloud and the Men's Club. He was a life member of the St. Cloud Knights of Columbus, Council #961, fifty year member of Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid Association, Crosier Apostolate and a former member of St. Cloud Eagles #622 and Waite Park Moose Lodge #1400. John was always an active person who "worked first and played later". He enjoyed dining, dancing, playing cards, bowling, golf, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include sons, Gerard Nathe and his wife, Beverly of Avon, Thomas Nathe of Grey Eagle, Richard Nathe and his wife, Paulette of St. Cloud and daughter, Jean Ann Shorthill and her husband, Bob of Belgrade, Montana; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Roering of Melrose and Loretta Linn of Freeport; sister-in-law, Armella Nathe of New Munich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Margaret Nathe; wife, Edna Nathe on July 10, 1998; sister, Catherine Hoppe; brothers, James, Anton, Casper, George and Fr. Gerard "Frank", OSB; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Grandchildren will serve as pall bearers and St. Cloud Knights of Columbus, Council #961 will be honorary bearers. Cross bearer and scripture bearer will be grandchildren.
