Joan Budde

Joan M. Budde, age 84 of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Cura Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Joe Korf officiating. Inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose. The Mass will be livestreamed, and the link can be found at www.oneinfaith.org.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Joan Marie Lizotte was born on June 10, 1942, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, to Renee and Rita (Theroux) Lizotte. On October 20, 1962, Joan was united in marriage to Sheldon Budde at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. She worked as an in-home daycare provider while also cutting hair from her home. She later owned Jo-Shel Beauty Shop in Greenwald before moving her hairstyling business to a shop located in Melrose City Hall. Joan eventually owned and operated Step-N-Style Salon in Melrose, where she continued her career as a hairstylist until her retirement.

Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, the Christian Mothers, Melrose Fire Department Auxiliary, Catholic United Financial, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Bingo, and cooking. Her potato salad was a family favorite and something many looked forward to. In her later years, Joan discovered a love for crafting and coloring, which became a favorite way for her to spend her time.

Survivors include her children, Paul (Penny) Budde of Phoenix, AZ, Gary Budde of Albuquerque, NM, Jodi Budde of New Germany, Tom (Kathy) Budde of Melrose, and Shelly (Joe) Herron of Prescott Valley, AZ; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy (Mark) Cox of Mounds View and Faye Lizotte of Stewardt, FL; brother-in-law, Mark Budde of England; and sister-in-law, LuAnn Lizotte of Cloquet.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon Budde on August 2, 2019; her parents; brother, Jerry Lizotte; sister, Joyce (Bob) Killion; and sister-in-law, Pat (Dick) Carstens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s School in Melrose.
