Jerry P. Musburger, age 86, passed away peacefully at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota on Wednesday, May 27, 2025 on his 64th wedding anniversary.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose with Rev. David Mommens officiating. A private interment will be at Camp Ripley, Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, following the lunch.

Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church.

Jerry was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on November 2, 1938 to Elmer and Hazel (Isherwood) Musburger. He was the fifth of six children. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1956 and Bemidji State University in 1960.

He taught students in Karlstad, Frazee, and St. Paul Park. After 21 years in the classroom, Jerry chose to go on to other options that presented itself.

The Minnesota Army National Guard and Army Reserve became Jerry’s second career. He had been commissioned as an officer upon graduation from the Minnesota Military Academy. He served for 32 years, 11 years being active duty. He retired with the rank of Major.

Jerry was very service minded and served holding offices in church and community organizations. He was a Past Commander in the Chaska American Legion Post 57. He was also a member of the Color Guard and Honor Guard, President in the Lions, received the Spoke award in the Jaycees, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, and Congregation President and Head Elder.

He married the love of his life, Carol (McCaslin) in 1961. They had two children, Jonathan and Jennifer.

Jerry owned a home on the Lynx Golf Course and played in two men’s groups, his other hobbies included reading and travel. He and Carol vacationed in Europe, Mexico, and Canada. In retirement, he spent 20 years in Florida and Alabama.

He loved his God, family, and country. He will be remembered as a faithful Christian, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and soldier. Our family will remember Jerry as a man of integrity.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Musburger, his son, Jonathan Musburger, his daughter, Jennifer (Mike) McCann; grandchildren, Maria Yurczyk, Andrea (Ryan) Engelmeyer, and Jake Yurczyk; great-grandchildren, Les and Fern; and his brother, Jeff Musburger.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings and spouses, Zoe (Roy) Wright, Gloria (Spike) Gary, James (Adeline) Musburger, and Jack (Ann) Musburger; sisters-in-law, Becky Musburger and Joan McCaslin; brothers-in-law, Don McCaslin and Bill McCaslin; and father and mother-in-law, Robert and Frances McCaslin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jerry’s honor can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sauk Centre Senior Organization, or the Sauk Centre Food Shelf. Thank you.
