Irene M. Wengler, 91 of Sauk Centre died from a massive stroke Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at St. Michael's Hospital, Sauk Centre.

Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8th at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.

Friends called from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. St. Theresa's Mission Group prayed at 4:30 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Irene Wengler was born February 27, 1912 in Kandota Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Raymond and Mary (Knott) Pangburn. She married Theodore F. Wengler on November 25, 1933 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sauk Centre. She was a life long resident of Sauk Centre owning and operating Wengler's Grocery in Sauk Centre for 30 years with her husband. She was then employed by Main Street Drug for 6 years.Irene was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Theresa's Mission Group and a former member of Gradatim Club.

Survivors include her children, Marie (Richard) Unger of Sauk Centre, James (Michelle) Wengler of Eveleth and Rosella (Edwin) Maile of Avon; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted Wengler on Feb. 20, 1976; brother and sisters, Howard and Evelyn Pangburn, Rayma Mossing and Laura Urness.

Casket bearers were Dennis Mossing, Jason Wengler, Edwin, Mark, Lee and Tony Maile. Cross bearer was Jill McGinnis and scripture bearer was Carmen Rowland. Honorary bearers were Helen Parsons, Connie Wengler, Paul Maile and Lynda Hesse.
