Herbert A. “Herb” Peters, age 89 of Sauk Centre passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 8 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Soenneker officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 7 at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 12 to 12:45 p.m. Monday, June 8 at the church.
Herbert Anthony Peters was born on August 31, 1936 in Belgrade, Minnesota to Alphonse and Cora (Wiener) Peters. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School and enlisted in the National Guard from July 1958 – July 1964. On September 4, 1961, Herb was united in marriage to Alice Welle at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He worked at First State Bank in Sauk Centre for 40 years, retiring as President in 2000. Herb then started working at United Ag Products, now called Nutrient, as a driver for 15 years.
Throughout his life, Herb was deeply committed to his community and served in numerous organizations, including as past president of the Sauk Centre City Council, Sauk Centre Opportunities, Inc., Sauk Centre Chamber of Commerce, Sauk Centre Jaycees, and Sauk Centre Rotary Club. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church since 1940 and a member of the Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus since 1952. Herb dedicated countless hours volunteering in his community, supporting local organizations, and contributing to the growth and success of Sauk Centre.
Herb enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and most of all spending time with his family and giving his grandchildren pontoon rides.
Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice Peters; his sons, John (Sue) Peters, Gregg (Deb) Peters, and Brian Peters (Lynne); daughter-in-law, Debbie Peters; eight grandchildren, Joe (Chelsy) and Maggie Peters, Kayla, Danny (Meghan), and Marcus Peters, and Ashley, Nick and Jacob Peters; brother, George (Delores) Peters; sister-in-law, Alice Peters of Sauk Centre; and many nieces and nephews
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Cora Peters; his son, Gary Peters on September 12, 2011; brothers, James (Carol) Peters, Robert (Valaria) Peters, and Richard Peters; and sister, Mary Ann (Bob) Spanier.
