Eugene Albert “Gene” Kampsen, age 71 of Belgrade, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, November 28, 2025 at his home in Belgrade, Minnesota.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 4 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Mark Botzet officiating. Interment will be in parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the church.
Eugene Albert Kampsen was born July 10, 1954 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Clarence and Ledwina (Weinmann) Kampsen. He grew up on the family farm south of Elrosa. Gene attended Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School before graduating from Belgrade High School in 1972. After high school, he worked in Los Angeles, California for two years, coming back in the summer to play amateur baseball for Elrosa. In 1974, he moved back to Minnesota to work in construction with his brother, Vern, at Vern’s Construction in New London. Following Vern’s death in 1981, Gene worked with several contractors, Menards and Bayer Built, before starting his farming operation, which he continued until his retirement. On September 10, 1977, he was united in marriage to Roxane Stalboerger at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Gene enjoyed baseball, watching all sports, farming, listening to music, and riding motorcycle.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Roxane Kampsen of Belgrade; daughter, Angie (Greg) Kulzer of Melrose; son, Paul (Morgan) Kampsen of Elrosa; grandchildren, Isaac, Austin, and Maverick Kulzer, and Brielle and Eli Kampsen; brothers and sisters, Halbert (Kathy) Kampsen of Sauk Centre, Betz Baldwin of St. Michael, and Mutz Kampsen of Otsego; and sisters-in-law, Doris Kampsen of New London and Karen Kampsen of Elrosa.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vern and Bob Kampsen.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
