It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward J. “Ed” Schurman age 87 of Sauk Centre, a devoted father, dedicated farmer, skilled truck driver, aviator, and loyal Minnesota sports fan. He passed away peacefully on Sunday June 7, 2026 at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre followed by a graveside service at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Edward John Schurman was born April 19, 1939 in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Edward and Loretta (Schwartz) Schurman.
For much of his life, Ed worked tirelessly as a crop farmer, embracing the demanding lifestyle that comes with tending to the land. He understood the value of an honest day's work and approached every challenge with determination. In addition to farming, he earned his Commercial Driver's License, spending countless hours on the road with the same dedication that defined every aspect of his life.
Beyond his work, Ed found freedom and joy in the sky as an aviator. A licensed private pilot and proud aircraft owner, he cherished every opportunity to fly. Aviation was more than a hobby—it was a passion that reflected his adventurous spirit, independence, and appreciation for the world from a unique perspective above.
A lifelong supporter of Minnesota sports, Ed could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, singing the Golden Gophers fight song, the 'Minnesota Rouser', and faithfully standing by them through every season. He had the memory of an elephant when it came to recollecting dates, players, scores, and stats. Whether watching a game with family and friends or discussing the latest scores, his enthusiasm was contagious.
Of all the roles he held throughout his life, none meant more to him than being a father. His daughter was the center of his world, and he loved her unconditionally. He took great pride in her accomplishments, offered dependable and constant support and guidance through life's challenges, and treasured every moment they shared together.
Survivors include his daughter, Lindsey Lang (Adam Steinke) of Mankato; grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle Steinke; and brother, Bill (Dee) Schurman of New London.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brother, Virgil "Bud", Valeria, Germaine, Delores, Elizabeth “Betty”, and Edna; and cousin, Jerry Schurman.
