Doreen K. Ebensteiner, age 83 of Cold Spring, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley with Rev. Tom Andert, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Eden Valley. Eden Valley Christian Mothers will pray at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Doreen Kathryn Garding was born November 12, 1938 on the family farm in St. Martin, Minnesota to Nicholas and Magdalene (Bueckers) Garding. She went to school through the eighth grade and later got her GED. On June 9, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eddie Ebensteiner at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. The couple lived and farmed near Albany on the Ebensteiner home place until 1971 when they moved to Eden Valley. They had a dairy farm until they retired in 2000 and moved to their lake home in Cold Spring. Doreen worked at the Watkins Nursing Home for 10 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Country Inn & Suites in Paynesville as a housekeeper, Business Incentives in Eden Valley, and at Cold Spring-Rocori Middle School as a para for one year then housekeeping for 5 years. She also cleaned cabins during the summer.
Doreen was a member of the Christian Mothers, Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, and later became a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley where she was involved in the Guild. She enjoyed being on a bowling league, taking dance lessons, gardening, crocheting, and reading.
Survivors include her children, Pam Pelzer of Cold Spring and Kevin Ebensteiner of Annandale; granddaughter, Ashley Smith of Cold Spring; great-grandson, Riley Smith of Cold Spring; and sisters and brothers, Tillie (Rollie) Gilk of Albany, Marie Garding of St. Cloud, Joe (Janice) Garding of Albany, Helen (Donnie) VanDrehle of Melrose, and Steve (Mary Kay) Garding of Freeport.
Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Ebensteiner on January 2, 2015; son, Tom “Elbow” Ebensteiner on May 22, 1993; and sister and brother-in-law, Adeline (Ralph) Boecker.
A special thank you to the staff at Assumption Court Assisted Living in Cold Spring for the wonderful care they gave Doreen, to St. Croix Hospice for their professional guidance, and to Quiet Oaks Hospice House for their gentle care they gave Doreen in her final hours.
