David Kallenbach

David O. Kallenbach, age 87 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Mercy Hospital, Unity Campus, in Fridley, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Michael Carlson officiating. Inurnment will be held in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

David Olaf Kallenbach was born August 24, 1938 in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin to Arthur O. and Gertrude (Berg) Kallenbach. He graduated from Prairie Farm High School in 1955 and furthered his education by earning his BA degree from Metropolitan State University. He began working at the Soo Line Railroad at the age of 17 where his paycheck had to be sent to his parents because he was a minor. He spent his entire working career at the Soo Line. He met his wife, Elma “Kay” Cartwright, in 1990 and they married in May 2000. They spent their retirement years sharing time between their homes in Minnesota and Arizona. Together they traveled and explored but their biggest joy was visiting family and friends. David loved to bowl, participating in various leagues in Sun City and never passed on the opportunity to bowl elsewhere.

He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Sun City, Arizona where he ushered, participated in various church groups and bowled on the church league. Church fellowship, bowling buddies and coffee gatherings meant everything to him and fulfilled his life following the passing of the love of his life.

Survivors include his children, Randy (Rogina) Kallenbach, Art (Mona) Kallenbach, Cheryl (Ken) Brown and Patti (Dary) Kallenbach; step children, Tim (Betsy) Cartwright, Julie (Tim) Bartol Cartwright, Phil Cartwright; five grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Elma “Kay” Cartwright on November 20, 2020, Oliver and Clara (Tuftin) Kallenbach, Dale and Jean (Tuftin) Kallenbach, Betty (Kallenbach) and Allen Cramblitt, Daniel and Jean (Cramblitt) Kallenbach.
