Clara A. Berscheid, age 78 of Grey Eagle passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at University of Minnesota Health Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Clara Agnes Berscheid was born on November 2, 1947, in Oakes, North Dakota, to Joseph and Barbara (Fank) Stoeber. She was united in marriage to Arnold “Arnie” Berscheid on May 20, 1970, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle.
Clara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State College in Valley City, North Dakota. She taught at Grey Eagle Public Schools in Grey Eagle for many years before later working at Senior Alternative Care in Sauk Centre.
Clara found great joy in tending her flower gardens, reading, and canning, especially applesauce and dill pickles. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and cherished the time she spent with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Arnie Berscheid of Grey Eagle; son, Anthony “Tony” (Melissa) of Rice; step-grandchild, Jayden of St. Augusta; sister, Mary Schweiss of Mankato; brothers-and-sisters-in law, Margaret Collins of Melrose, Kathryn (Adrian) Johnson of Melrose, Jan (Dave) Middendorf of Grey Eagle, Barb (David) Buck of Cedar, Robert (Judy) Berscheid of Grey Eagle, Dennis (Cindy) Berscheid of Melrose, Patricia (Leland) Buchholz of Grey Eagle, Pamela (Steven) Klaphake of Melrose, and Thomas Berscheid of Golden Valley.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Barbara Stoeber; and brothers-in-law, Harold Schweiss, Jack Berscheid, and Kenneth Collins.
