Bernadine C. (Beuning) Ettle, age 96 of Freeport, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota after suffering a heart attack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2026 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 24326 Trobec Street, Albany, MN 56307, with Rev. Julius Beckermann, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church.
Bernadine was born on July 30, 1930, to Herman and Rose (Thell) Beuning. She attended a rural country school and was united in marriage to Leo Ettle on January 23, 1951 in St. Francis, Minnesota. Together, Bernadine and Leo spent their lives on their dairy farm, where they worked side by side caring for their animals and tending to the crops.
Bernadine enjoyed caring for her garden, always growing more than needed, so she could share with friends and family. She was proud of the many beautiful flowers she grew and hoped that those passing by would enjoy them as much as she did. She was also a wonderful cook and baker, known for her homemade bread, jams and delicious meals. No one ever left the Ettle farm hungry. During the winter months, Bernadine enjoyed quilting and embroidery. She also loved fishing and looked forward to spending relaxing Sundays by the lake.
Her faith was a very important part of her life. She devoted time each day to prayer and was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church since her marriage in 1951. She attended daily and weekend Mass whenever possible. Bernadine and Leo were married for 71 years until Leo’s death in 2022.
Bernadine is survived by her seven children, Rita (Norman) Raymond, Ronald (Jill) Ettle, James Ettle, Thomas (Lisa) Ettle, Janice Ettle, Debra (David) Resnick, and Keith Ettle; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Irene Lund and Mary Jane (Arnold) Blommel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Ettle; son, Andrew Ettle; siblings, Anthony Beuning, Norbert Beuning, Lorraine Hammond, Theresa Roerick, Walter Beuning, and Dorothy Wald.
