Hildegard M. Schmiesing, age 97 of Meire Grove, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the CentraCare – Melrose Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Meire Grove.

Hildegard Schoenborn was born June 27, 1922 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Louis and Mary (Schulzetenberg) Schoenborn. She attended St. John’s School in Meire Grove through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Alphonse “Al” Schmiesing on June 21, 1949 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Minnesota. Hildegard worked with her husband on the family farm along with raising their four children.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Hildegard held the Blessed Virgin Mary near and dear to her heart and prayed the rosary daily.  In her younger years, Hildegard helped with a variety of activities at St. John’s.  She always had a green thumb and was very particular in the way she treated the soil to grow her beautiful flower garden.

Survivors include her children, Jan (Tim) Wingate of Melrose, Diane (Mike) Johnson of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Mark Schmiesing of Sauk Centre; eight grandchildren, Kristina, Teresa, Michelle, Chris, Stephanie, Dylan, Briana, and Makena; five great-grandchildren, Eddie, James, Henry, Addisten, and Taylor; brothers, Jerome (Bernice) Schoenborn of St. Cloud and David Schoenborn of Spring Hill; sister-in-law, Lidwina Schoenborn; and brother-in-law, Alcuin Illies.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse Schmiesing on September 29, 2014;  son, David Schmiesing; parents; brothers and sisters, Norbert Schoenborn, Art Schoenborn, Rose Mary Schoenborn, and Doreen Illies.
