Dale Dickison

May 6, 1936 ~ May 6, 2019 (age 83)

Dale Dickison, of Sauk Centre died peacefully May 6, 2019 at CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre on his 83rd birthday.

A service to honor Dale’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019 at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Pastor Kyle Peterson officiating.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday from 8:30 - 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Dale Adrian Dickison, son of Emma C. (Nyman) and Clarence F. Dickison was born May 6, 1936 in Sauk Centre.  Dale was born with Down Syndrome and lived at State Hospitals in Brainerd and Cambridge before moving into Cathy and Carl Koelln’s home in Sauk Centre.  As a youngster, Dale’s life expectancy was to be “just a few years”; however, he lived with Cathy and Carl for 19 years.  He had a “spitfire” personality that won the hearts of everyone around him. When the Koellns retired, Dale became one of the first residents of Laven Home Care in Sauk Centre.   He was cared for by Shawn and Nicole and lived at this home for nearly nine years.

In his younger adult life, Dale worked with WACOSA in the Sauk Centre area.  Even though he was nearly non-verbal, he had an amazing way of communicating with you.  His clear blue eyes and huge smile spoke on his behalf.  He would share with excitement with “woo wooo’s” and had a special way of asking for ice cream and saying thank you.  He was fondly known as “Peanut” by the home care staff, his housemates, family and friends.

His innocent presence will be missed by everyone.

Dale will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Marsha Pietzak, Grant Dickison, Gwen Snell, Janelle Philippi, Jodi Martins, Paul Dickison, Cynthia DIckison, and Peggy Dickison; his housemates and care providers; and other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Clarence Dickison; and his brothers, Carroll Dickison and Verlan Dickison.
