Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services continues a long tradition of independent, family-owned funeral homes in their communities, serving families throughout central Minnesota with funeral homes in Melrose, Sauk Centre, Grey Eagle and Freeport. The former Schad Funeral Homes were purchased in 1993 from Bernie and Mary Schad of Melrose by Pat and Sue Patton of Sauk Centre.
Our mission is Honoring Life’s Memories™. We strive to provide unique and personalized funeral and memorial services. This began with providing memory boards and display tables for family members to display photos and mementos and now includes personalized printed tributes that can be customized with photographs of the deceased.
Throughout the funeral planning process we provide professional guidance in the selection of funeral and memorial services. We offer a full range of choices for funeral and memorial services, including cremation. Our most popular choices have been packaged together, at a discount, to ease the burden of the decisions that need to be made.
Over the past few years there has been a heightened interest in prearranging funerals. With skyrocketing costs of medical and nursing home care, many seniors are concerned about protecting enough money to pay for their own funeral. Prearranging your funeral along with prefunding it, offers you peace of mind. Your family will be comforted knowing that your wishes will be fulfilled and will not be faced with a financial burden either. Appointments can be made to help answer your questions and concerns and there is never any obligation.
While we are in the business of Honoring Life’s Memories ™
we want to provide a continuum of care for the families we serve. Since 2001, the
services of a grief specialist, Bonnie Stachowski, LGSW, were extended to every
family we serve. She places follow-up telephone calls to families, just to see how
they are doing. She continues follow-up on a regular basis during the first year,
which may include in-person visits. She will also recommend resources for those
needing continued support.” In addition we continue to sponsor “Music
and Memories”, an anniversary radio program broadcast on KASM, 1150
AM, every Sunday morning at 8 a.m. and an annual Christmas Service of Remembrance.
Our new funeral home in Melrose, opened in 1999, is located on 5th Avenue East and Kraft Drive in Melrose. Designed in the Prairie School style of architecture, the building combines Wisconsin limestone and natural stucco colors with a low roofline and long eaves to allow the building to blend with the surrounding wetlands. The funeral home includes a spacious lobby and gathering space with a cozy fireplace and a chapel/visitation room with seating for 200, which can be divided for two simultaneous visitations. The large lounge and conference room can accommodate any size group for funeral planning.
Our funeral home in Sauk Centre, built in 1980, was completely remodeled in 2006. It has some Craftsman features and furniture and warm oak woodwork. The funeral home includes a cozy lobby with sitting area and a chapel/visitation room with seating for 200, which can be divided for two simultaneous visitations. Our lounge has doubled in size, now includes counter space and a sink, and can used as family space during visitations. Our large conference room has a conference table to accommodate groups for funeral planning and includes areas for selecting merchandise.
The remodeling of our Grey Eagle funeral home was our first project, when it suffered water damage during a winter freeze in 1994. The interior and exterior were completely new; even the entrance was moved. The funeral home now has a lobby and is fully handicapped accessible. The chapel/visitation room can accommodate up to 75 guests.
Our Freeport funeral home had new carpet and chairs installed in 1995. Most of the families we serve in Freeport are now choosing visitation in the local church due to the size of the crowd and the smaller size of the funeral home. It is available to any family that desires a more intimate and comfortable location in Freeport.
Our funeral home participates in several organizations to maintain our leadership in providing the best in funeral services. These organizations include Federated Funeral Directors of America (FFDA), Cremation Association of North America (CANA), Minnesota Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) and National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA).
Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services maintains office hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
